Come Apart…And Rest A While

Mark 6:30-32

30 And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and
told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.

31 And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a
desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going,
and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
32 And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.

We all get tired and weary. We live in a fast-paced world. The demands of the day leave us worn out. We deal with suffering and pain and with the devil. We need rest BUT we need rest for the whole being, not just the soul.

Jesus had sent the disciples out. They had preached and taught. They were so busy that verse 31 says they had no leisure so much as to eat. They were excited when telling Jesus all that happened. Jesus was pleased with them but he saw more than they were saying. He looked at them, eager to tell him what had happened and ready to go again. But he also saw how tired they were.

Sometimes we get so caught up in doing what we do for the Lord. We are to be busy. Absolutely! I never feel like I get done in a day all I should for the Lord. As important as it is to work for the Lord, it is important to rest. We have to work and take care of the house and such things. But we need to rest. Many of us have trouble sleeping. It is very important to get that physical rest. It is equally important to get the spiritual rest.

God has a plan. In verse 31 we read Come ye yourselves apart into a
desert place, and rest a while.
He said it twice; come ye yourself Jesus said come with me. Go to a deserted place, a place where there is nothing around to distract you and REST A WHILE. Jesus got disciples into the boat with him and took them there. He took them away privately to be with him.

Being able to sleep is a blessing.Get apart with to rest. It may be hard to rest, but IT IS NOT HARD FOR JESUS TO GIVE US REST.

Before next week, study the following scriptures: Psalms 4:1-8, Philippians 4:4-7, Exodus 20:8-11 and Deuteronomy 12:5-7.

This week, pray this prayer before you pray yourself. It was written by reformer Martin Luther.

My heavenly Father,

I thank You, through Jesus Christ, Your beloved Son, that You have protected me, by Your grace. Forgive, I pray, all my sins and the evil I have done. Protect me, by Your grace, tonight. I put myself in your care, body and soul and all that I have. Let Your holy angels be with me, so that the evil enemy will not gain power over me. Amen….Then go to sleep quickly and happily.
