Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us….
There is a world we cannot see. We see our bodies but we don't see the atoms and molecules that make up the body. What we can't see is still there. There are dangers. We live life with a safety factor, not of fear, but as a factor. We lock our doors; we make sure when we leave home nothing is on that could cause a fire. Subconsciously we realize there is that danger. However it is not danger of a physical nature that we should be as concerned with as the dangers in a spiritual sense; there is a danger for our souls. Just as we would be wary of a naked wire we should be wary of the dangers we cannot see.
The spiritual danger is with us at all times. One way or another sin, through the evil spirits of Satan, is here to continuously whisper in our ears, to the spiritual part of our being; we are influenced to do something wrong in thought or deed. The devil tells us to listen to this or that; he constantly works on us to pull us away from God.
So in how much danger are we? It's only as much as we allow. The legions of Satan are there but SO ARE THE ANGELS OF GOD! God himself is there. Realize that the devil wants you to forget he is around, but as he whispers to us, the Lord is there to deliver. It is our choice.
Verse 9 says that we should not trust in ourselves. Sometimes we think we only need the Lord now and then or when something goes wrong. NOT SO! Just how much of the devil can you handle yourself? NONE! The devil gets you to put off asking for the Lord's help,
and when you fall he comes at you saying if you had been a Christian you would have called on Jesus in the first place. We must realize that the devil is with us through those fallen angels. If we are downtown or at work or even church we face danger–the evil is there. Our own power is not much at all. Without God we can't get by the devil or from the ruin he will place upon us. We need a DELIVERER. In Him there is safety. We need the Lord's help every step of the way!
The biggest and most successful lie the devil uses is convincing us we can do it by ourselves. The Lord knew this would be the biggest deception. Then the hardest thing we'll ever do is to realize we can't help ourselves. The father of the demon-possessed son cried for the Lord to help. He knew the Lord was the only one to rid his son of the devil. The only way to get safely through today, tomorrow, and eternity is with THE Deliverer. The influences of the devil are all around us. We are not sin proof. Satan doesn't want you to believe that. He wants you to take his offer. He reminds you that you don't need God. He says God won't forgive you. He is a two-faced liar. We may think we know it all but we know nothing. We are here today because of God, and we need Him.
We have been forgiven of our past failures. He delivered. He is not just a past Deliverer. HE doth deliver and he will yet deliver us. In a no-win situation, in the pressures of the world, when we are more carnal than spiritual, when we feel a backsliding….how will we make it? Satan will do anything to make sure we don't make it. Satan doth try, but greater is He that is in you…JESUS DOTH DELIVER! The time will come that we will be devil free, but we never want to be free of Jesus. He promises to DELIVER. Whatever long-range plans Satan has for us, we can still find the DELIVERER.
We can count on two things in this life. Satan will be there. Jesus will be there. We need to be safe, but we can't do it by ourselves. We must realize that in this world, where we cannot see many things, that Jesus can keep us safe. Jesus is good; He will deliver. Have the devil or have Jesus. There is safety with God.
