It’s
a devilish desire to let people see what we do. The Pharisees even gave alms so
the people could see them. They had a plan.
The servants they took with them would tell others to stop and look at
what they were doing. They needed to remember that you have to serve from a
secret place first before any public activities go on. This applies to both the saved and the
unsaved. In today’s scripture, Jesus was
not condemning them as much as He was enlightening them to the scriptures of God.
Matthew: 6:1-4 Take heed
that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no
reward of your Father which is in heaven.
Therefore when thou doest thine
alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the
synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say
unto you, They have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand
doeth: That thine alms may be in secret:
and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
We
need to take away the biggest obstacle we have—the fear of doing something in
front of others or the fear of what others may think or being embarrassed if we
come to the altar. The devil uses this.
What if I do it wrong? What if I don’t
say the right words? IT’S NOT WHAT PEOPLE THINK! IT’S WHAT GOD THINKS! Take Jesus to the
innermost part of yourself. The Pharisees missed the mark. They looked good on
the outside; they did everything right for the outside, BUT the inside was
corrupt. This does no good for any of
us.
Salvation
is a matter of the heart. If you come to church that won’t
save you. If you join a church it won’t save you. If you shake the preacher’s
hand; it won’t save you. You must take
Jesus into your heart and trust Him. It’s not something to be seen by others.
The left hand doesn’t need to know what goes on between you and God. Only God
needs to know.
Are
you letting what others might think stop you?
Do you fear God won’t accept you? You have come as far as being here
today; you’re in this service; you’ve opened God’s word; you’ve listened to
God’s word. You’re pretty close to the Lord; you’re one step away. Now, the devil wants you to stop and wonder
what people will think. IT DOES NOT
MATTER WHAT OTHERS THINK WHEN IT COME TO THE MATTER OF YOUR SOUL. Let nothing get in your way. If any person can look at another and say “I
don’t want you to be saved” then they are among the minority for MANY do WANT you
to be saved. What anyone says is of no
importance—that’s it PERIOD!
You
don’t sound the trumpet as the Pharisees did when doing something. Their
emphasis was on the public rituals, a series of rules, procedures, initiations,
and on and on. It was for the benefit of
someone else. You don’t come for the preacher. You don’t come for mom and
dad. You don’t come for anyone but
yourself. You must personally take Him into your heart. I can’t see your heart; don’t tell me, for I
can’t forgive you. The Father can. The whole matter is between
you and God. Don’t worry about your left
hand—don’t worry about what others may say or think. No one else can participate in your
salvation. You must deliberately open
your heart and trust Him to forgive you. It’s as simple as that. You are born again. It all starts in the
secret place of your heart, and no one else knows what goes on in the heart of
another.
Who
can frame it or put into words what salvation is or does. The eloquent, at their best, can only hit the
tip of the iceberg. After you trust God you’ll have plenty to say to others!
Remember Legion; no one listened to him.
All the leper could say was “unclean, unclean.”
Look at the Samaritan woman. She passed no one’s inspection. That’s why
she came to the well alone. After
meeting Jesus, it was evident all of these had changed. They all had plenty to say, and others
listened.
Our
first obligation is to Jesus, and it always will be. Don’t worry about what you
should say or do OR what others will say or do.
Don’t pay attention to that “left hand.” Come open your heart to the
Lord. Call upon Him. You’ll know exactly what to say. Just pay attention to Jesus.
