If Days Could Speak

Job 32:7 …days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.

Before we can assess the situation of this church, we must assess ourselves. The church is not this building; we are. Our lives are filled with moments, hours, days, months, and years. Those days speak and write books. These are individual books, one for each of us. The pages are written day after day. The past up to this day is written. Today is another page. Each day hereafter will be a page.

So, how are we doing? How are you doing? What we are right now is because of what we were in the past. If those days talked would we be afraid or ashamed? Truth is they do talk. What we think may be on our pages may not be what is really there. We are used to ourselves and sometimes don't realize what we are writing. As long as we live we will write this book. God sees the pages, and the world around us sees the pages; they are seen for what they are. We can't fudge the contents. We are literally an open book clearly read by others.

Verse 9 says that great men are not always wise. Ask yourself "what am I teaching with my life? Am I learning from my mistakes?" Are you getting anywhere with this novel you are writing. Are you being presumptuous or resting on your laurels? What is on the pages is up to us, and what God or others think is being told by a spokesman, our own life. The way we live is the way it is. Each day we hand God and others around us the next page. This page does not contain information about what someone else wrote. We don't write for each other, only for ourselves. The days are speaking and the years should be teaching us.

What are you writing? What chapter are you on? How many chapters are left? We don't know. We could be closer to the end of our book than we realize. It is time to change. You can start right now; the direction of future pages can change now. Remember, there will be no sequel to this book, no Part 2. It will be a good or bad ending. And that's it. Where the tree falleth, there it shall be. Our books remain in publication and follow us to judgment.

We all need to write a better book. The only way to change it is through God. Do you need a turning point? What is on your page right now? Have you asked for forgiveness? Are you striving to make this page better? Have you learned from past mistakes? What you write today matters. Write what any reader will be pleased with. Come and let's right a better book.

Three were baptized after the service this morning. We thank the Lord for this and request your prayers for them.
